Made of rugged plastic that will survive all kinds of crazy play, the Fisher Price iXL learning system is similar to popular hand-held game players, but is designed for the use of younger children. The device opens like a book to reveal an LCD touch screen that displays all the action. Your kid will navigate through the activities by touching the tethered stylus to the screen.

The iXL is extremely intuitive and uncomplicated. The stylus has a holster and is tethered to the device by a sturdy nylon string, so your child will never lose it. Opposite the screen is a speaker with volume control, an Action button that allows you to make choices in certain modes, and a Home button that returns you to the Main Menu whenever you wish.

FUN FACTOR: After a lot of research, I finally chose the iXL over the vtech vreader for my daughter’s 3rd birthday. We had a chance to play with this in a store and thought it might be a better choice for a 3-year-old attention span. This toy has barely been put down in the last 3 days. My 3yo has spent hours playing with it. I also have a 5yo who steals away with it whenever the 3yo is not looking. Last night she sat in her tinkerbell tent and played for more than a hour and half. My 6yo declared that she’d like to have one of these for herself.

The Leapster Explorer works similarly to other gaming devices for older kids and adults but plays age-appropriate educational games. Kids will be prompted through gameplay to use certain buttons, but the tethered stylus and touch screen are the main modes of interaction.

The Explorer comes with a free Leaplet download that you’ll chose from a collection of games and activities on the LeapFrog site. You can access the free download after connecting the Explorer to your computer with the included USB cable and setting up an account. Other preloaded extras include previews and trailers for current and upcoming Explorer titles and Pet Pad, a digital pet that kids can design, play with, and care for.

I purchased this for my son on his 3rd birthday and it has been worth every penny. This keeps him occupied on his way to and from school and was excellent on a 3 hour flight . It has withstood being dropped, sat on and being chewed on. So far the best games for us have been “Mr Pencil saves Doodleburg” and “Toy Story 3″. I bought this game as a gift for my Lego-loving 6 year old nephew. He and his whole family seem to enjoy it. He isn’t quite ready to play by the rules, but it was easy enough for him to come up with his own style of play. The children in our house are all Lego addicts and this is one of the most anticipated Lego sets (probably because they don’t get to open it right away). The anticipation is fun to see as a parent. I can’t say much about the product itself since we haven’t opened it yet, but even if the things inside are a total dud (which I’m told they’re not by what the kids see in the pictures and the list of Lego pieces), it will have been worth every penny as a parent. A fun and easy question and answer game that everyone aged 6 and up can play. In a group of two to six players, you’ll draw a card for an animal, food, or common object and attach it to your headband. Everyone can see your card but you can’t. The goal of this game is to work out who or what your card says by asking the other players questions before your time runs out.

Hedbanz is a modern twist to the popular, no-accessory travel game 20 Questions, but with a time limit instead of a question limit. It’s also more difficult because players have to retain the information they’ve learned about their own mystery words while answering the other players’ questions during their turns!

Battery Life

Hands down, The Kindle has the best battery life of all E-readers, making it one of the best features of the device.  On a single charge, the Kindle can last four days with wireless enabled, and up to two weeks with the wireless feature disabled. No other reader has been able to hold a candle to the battery life of this device.

Memory

The standard version holds up to 1500 books and periodicals. The Kindle DX can hold up to 3500, dwarfing the memory of other e-readers, and some models have a microSD slot for expansion of memory. But is a memory card even necessary considering 3500 titles is a quite a well-stocked library.

Size

The Kindle comes in two sizes, and both are compact enough to remain convenient, with a screen size large enough not to cause eyestrain. It’s so thin you could cut through a block of cheese with it, and it weighs less than your average mass-market paperback book.   Other e-readers are either too big and bulky to be convenient, or too small to read for long periods of time without strain.

Convenience

If you want a book and you own a Kindle, you can have your book in less than one minute.  You have immediate access to Amazon’s entire electronic library, and there is no signing in required on your Kindle. You just find the title, and in less time than it takes to microwave a bag of popcorn, the book is yours.

E-Ink Technology

Amazon took into consideration the eye strain that comes with staring at a back lit computer or mobile device when developing the Kindle. Their E-Ink technology is a 100% unique feature that  allows users to see the screen clearly in any light, including direct sunlight, and will not cause eye strain. B&D Mr Cuppacino Cappuccino Milk Frother

How do you make a good frothed cappuccino with the B&D Mr Cuppacino maker?

This milk frother can be a little hard to use if you’ve never frothed milk before. Sometimes it’s because the right attachment is not being used and sometimes it’s the person’s skill level.

Firstly, make sure you wait until the red light goes out as this indicates that the chamber is full of steam (please note that only WATER should be in the chamber as that is what is needed to create the steam).

Secondly, be sure to press the lever down only slightly. There is no need to push it all the way down otherwise you will boil the milk instead of steaming it. Make sure your 600ml VERY COLD stainless steel jug is approximately one-third full of VERY COLD skim milk (full milk will be tastier but won’t froth as well as milk with less fat).

Next, put the steaming wand into the jug of milk so the wand is just off the bottom of the jug tilting the jug on an angle. Press the level only slightly and hold the jug steady. When the milk reaches approximately 150f it is ready (if you don’t have a thermometer you can usually tell when the milk is hot enough when the condensation is at least half way up the jug. If you allow the milk to get hotter than this you will boil the milk (you’ll know if this has happened because the milk will start to bubble up uncontrollably).

Milk Frothing Attachment

If your machine does not have the right frothing attachment or you get the frothing right, the attachment shown here is excellent. It is from Sunbeam and fits the Mr Cuppacino wand quite well. If you do want to buy one of these try some online coffee suppliers or even Ebay.

You can know that losing weight is often a very personal option. However, if you are more than 20 pounds overweight, losing the pounds is important for your health. Look at the recommended weight for someone of your size as a start. However, because everyone’s bodies are different, because of fat and muscle ratio to body weight, you should really see your doctor if you feel like you need to lose weight. A doctor can confirm this or put your mind to rest by telling you that your weight is normal. This is the best way to make sure that you are being healthy.

There are also times, however, when you definitely do not need to lose weight. First, if you aren’t as thin as your favorite actor or model, that doesn’t mean you need to lose weight. Often, models and actresses are airbrushed in photos to look more toned and they have personal trainers that work with them for hours every day in order to help them stay in shape. If your body weight is normal, you do not need to lose weight, even if you are a pants size bigger than your ideal celebrity.

Your also don’t need to lose weight just because you gain it. People gain weight for a number of reasons, and this is especially common during puberty and for the few years after. If you gain weight check out the rest of your body—are you going through a growth spurt in height as well? Also, don’t worry about gaining weight when you are lifting at the gym. As you tone your muscles, you will look better, but because muscles are heavier than fat, you may actually gain weight.

Lastly, you don’t need to lose weight simply because someone else makes a rude comment about your looks. People are cruel, but everyone has a different body make up. If you are happy with your weight and it is within the normal range for someone of your age and height, than chances are that the rude comment is stemming from other issues, not because you actually do need to lose weight. Be happy with  yourself and eat a healthy diet and you shouldn’t need to worry about losing weight.

First a foremost, if you are overweight, you are at risk for a number of diseases. The main health risk you will probably experience is heart disease, which can lead to a heart attack. Many heart attacks are deadly. Heart disease develops when you heart has to work extra hard to pump the blood to the body, which causes it to become fatigued. This can occur simply because you are overweight, or can be a result of high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

Along with heart disease, having high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels can also put you at risk for a stroke. Strokes occur when blood, and therefore oxygen, cannot reach the brain. This can happen due to high cholesterol. When you have high cholesterol, the fatty deposits build up on your artery walls. If a piece of this plaque breaks off and travels to the heart, it causes a heart attack, and traveling to the brain causes a stroke.

Being overweight is also bad for women who wish to become pregnant. When you’re overweight, the hormones in your body are changing, and if you don’t get the right nutrients you may find that your body does not produce the right chemicals for the hormones needed to ovulate or carry a child. Even if you become pregnant, being overweight puts you at risk for a miscarriage or health problems with the baby.

Beyond the health world, being overweight can also affect your daily life. You may find it difficult to purchase clothing in your size or you may find that the clothing that does come in larger sizes is more expensive. This is simply due to the manufacturer need more material to make the same article of clothing. Problems extend beyond shopping when doing things like visiting theme parks, where you may not be able to ride all of the rides, or using public transportation, where you may feel crowded in seats made for smaller people. Losing weight, even if you are currently happy with your own weight, is always a healthy and smart option, until you reach a normal weight.
